Information about San Luis Obispo Blues Baseball...

The SLO BLUES are a Summer Collegiate Wooden Baseball Club.  All of our players are current Collegiate athletes.

The  BLUES are a member of the California Collegiate League (CCL), one of the premier collegiate leagues in the country.  The CCL is comprised of the BLUES, the Santa Barbara Foresters (2006 & 2008 NBC Champions), the MLB Academy Barons (a MLB sponsored program based out of Compton),  the Conejo Oaks, the Orange City Pioneers, the Glendale Angelenos, and Team Vegas (based out of Las Vegas, NV).

Games are played during the summer months of June and July.

Home Games are played at Sinsheimer Stadium.

The SLO Blues are a not-for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball Organization that competes yearly from June thru August.  Home games are held at Sinsheimer Stadium, located at 900 Southwood Drive in San Luis Obispo, CA.  The team competes in the California Collegiate League (CCL) and continues to be ranked among the top 20 teams nationally from a field of over 260 teams.

We began in 1946 when founding Manager Sandy Leguina gathered a group of WWII veterans coming home to San Luis Obispo who wanted to play baseball.  He added a few younger players and began the season playing against semi-pro and town teams from throughout California.  Originally dubbed the "Merchants", the team name was changed just weeks into the first season.  George Baker, local sports editor of the Telegram-Tribune, renamed the team the "Blues" after their blue lettering and blue stockings.  He stated that any team worth anything needed a more colorful name, and declared that any objections should be directed to his desk, "else in the future we will" use the new name.

The SLO Blues Organization has three (3) main objectives.  Our first is to provide first-rate and affordable family entertainment to California's Central Coast residents.  We believe it is our responsibility as a local business to give back to this great community.  To this end, we have established Outreach Programs like the Charity Partners Program, the Military Outreach Program, and the Blues Buddies Program.  Our second objective is to mentor and advance the professional and physical skills of collegiate ballplayers at the highest level of competition.  Local and national Division I baseball players continue their development with Blues while temporarialy away from their parent college or university.  Our third objective is to continue and expand our internship program which focuses on a learn-by-doing approach.  We take great pride in our interns' involvement in nearly every aspect of operations, and currently have 28 individuals interning with out organization for the 2011 season.
