Buying a house, because of the complexity of the process and because we don't usually do it more than a few times in our lives, might be accurately compared to settling a legal matter. Most of us wouldn't think of acting as our own attorney -- we just don't know enough. And nobody would trust our opponent's attorney to give us good advice.
