Description : The Performing Arts Center, San Luis Obispo is a state-of-the-art performance facility located on the beautiful Central Coast of California at the campus of California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly). Open since September of 1996, the Performing Arts Center incorporates two main venues: the Christopher Cohan Center, including the majestic 1,289-seat Sidney Harman Hall, the 180-seat classroom Philips Hall, and the multi-purpose Pavilion that holds various capacities up to 400 people; and the 498-seat Alex & Faye Spanos Theatre.

Clark Center for the Performing Arts

Description : As is fitting with anything to do with folk music, the beginnings of the SLO Folk Music Society, aka SLOFOLKS, are somewhat shrouded in time. It evolved organically from a series of house concerts in the late 70s, many held at Linnaea Phillips’ home, which morphed into concerts and monthly folk music jams at Linnaea’s Cafe. At that time the concerts were largely unamplified, and concentrated on traditional folk music.

Pacific Repertory Opera

Description : Opera San Luis Obispo (OperaSLO), formerly known as Pacific Repertory Opera (PRO), is the only professional opera company in San Luis Obispo County. Founded by Dr. Jill Anderson and the late Jean Cook, Opera San Luis Obispo presented its first-ever performance on June 4, 1985 at a “brown-bag” concert at Linnaea’s Coffee House in downtown San Luis Obispo. The program featured scenes from The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart and Der Rosenkavalier by R. Strauss. They were performed with costumes and props, but not much else. Over the next two decades, Opera San Luis Obispo grew from those simple scenes to fully staged professional productions, utilizing rising singers from SLO County and all over the country, plus local performers for orchestra and chorus.

San Luis Obispo Symphony

Description : 1954 Symphony is born in the form of the Morro Bay Community Orchestra with a small group of eleven musicians loosely organized by Morro Bay Presbyterian Church organist Esther Hoisington. (Anniversary years are celebrated from the date of incorporation - 1961.) 1957 The group continues to grow and in this year moves to San Luis Obispo becoming part of the adult education program, changing its name to the San Luis Obispo Community Orchestra, under the baton of Lucian Morrison, a long-time music teacher in San Luis Obispo schools.
